Coreceptor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002581

A cell-surface protein that binds to a ligand concurrently with a primary receptor to initiate or modulate a cellular signal. The coreceptor itself may not bind the primary ligand but stabilizes the receptor-ligand interaction and participates in the signaling cascade. In T-cell activation, CD4 and CD8 are coreceptors that bind to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule alongside the T-cell receptor's binding to the antigenic peptide.
