Outer electric potential

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008368

The electric potential at a point just outside the surface of a phase, representing the work done per unit charge to bring a test charge from infinity to that point, without crossing the phase boundary. It is influenced by the charge distribution within the phase and any adsorbed species on its surface. This potential is also known as the Volta potential.
