Inner electric potential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005880
The electric potential inside the bulk of a phase, defined so that the field strength there is minus its gradient. It is the sum of the outer potential, set by the net charge on the phase, and the surface potential, from the dipole layer at its boundary, and it is also called the Galvani potential. It is purely electrostatic, so the chemical interactions of a charged species are accounted for separately in its chemical potential.
