Surface electric potential
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011638
The potential drop across the dipole layer at the surface of a phase, equal to the inner electric potential of the phase minus its outer electric potential and written chi. The outer potential is the work of bringing a unit charge from far away to just outside the surface, so the inner potential equals the outer potential plus the surface potential. This relation links it to the electrochemical potential of a charged species in the phase.
