Nuclearity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008124
The number of central atoms, typically metal ions, held together within a single coordination entity or polynuclear complex. These central atoms are connected to each other through either direct metal-metal bonds or, more frequently, by bridging ligands that coordinate to two or more of the metal centers. The nuclearity is specified by prefixes such as mono-, di-, tri-, and tetra- for one, two, three, and four central atoms, respectively, as in a dinuclear copper complex.
