Omphalosite
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008230
A type of parasitic twin in which one twin, the omphalosite, is severely underdeveloped and dependent on the other, more developed twin (the autosite) for survival. The omphalosite lacks a functional heart and other vital organs, receiving its blood supply through a shared umbilical cord. This condition arises from incomplete separation during early embryogenesis.
