Palpitation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008428
A subjective sensation of an abnormal heartbeat, perceived by the individual as unusually rapid, forceful, fluttering, or irregular. While palpitations are sometimes benign, they can also indicate an underlying cardiac arrhythmia or other medical condition. In a neurotoxicological context, exposure to certain chemicals, such as stimulants or agents affecting the autonomic nervous system, can induce palpitations as a symptom of toxicity.
