Particulate sol
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008516
A colloidal dispersion whose dispersed phase is made of separate particles that are not macromolecules, as opposed to a polymeric sol built from macromolecules. The particles are small enough for Brownian motion to keep them suspended in the continuous fluid rather than letting gravity settle them. They are frequently inorganic, as in sols of silica or of metal oxides.
