Phase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008730
A portion of a system whose chemical composition and physical state are the same throughout, set off from the rest of the system by a definite boundary. Density, refractive index and crystal structure take the same values everywhere inside it. A system may contain one or several phases at equilibrium, as ice, liquid water and water vapor do at the triple point.
