Photoadsorption centre
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008798
A specific site on the surface of a material that becomes active for adsorbing a molecule upon electronic excitation by light. This transient site is created when the material absorbs a photon, leading to a localized change in electronic structure that facilitates the binding of an adsorbate. The lifetime of such a centre is finite, and it reverts to its inactive state after the adsorbed molecule desorbs or the electronic excitation decays.
