Photochemical smog

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008824

A type of air pollution formed when sunlight reacts with nitrogen oxides and at least one volatile organic compound (VOC) in the atmosphere. This reaction produces ground-level ozone and other harmful secondary pollutants. It is a common environmental problem in urban areas with high vehicle emissions and warm, sunny climates.
