Photoenolisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008867
A phototautomerization in which an excited carbonyl compound abstracts a hydrogen atom from a position gamma to the carbonyl group, for example from the ortho-methyl group of o-methylbenzophenone through a six-membered transition state, to give a short-lived enol, a photoenol. The photoenol reverts to the ketone thermally unless it is trapped in Diels-Alder reactions.
