Keto-enol tautomerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006325
A chemical equilibrium between two isomeric forms of a compound, a keto form and an enol form, that differ in the position of a proton and a double bond. The keto form contains a carbonyl group (C=O) and an alpha-hydrogen, while the enol form has a hydroxyl group attached to a carbon-carbon double bond (C=C-OH). This interconversion is catalyzed by both acids and bases.
