Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008975
The visible, projecting part of the outer ear, also known as the auricle. It is composed primarily of cartilage covered by skin and functions to collect sound waves and channel them into the auditory canal. In developmental toxicology, malformations of the pinna, such as anotia (absence) or microtia (underdevelopment), are evaluated as potential indicators of teratogenic exposure.
