Polyarteritis nodosa
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009104
A systemic necrotizing inflammation of medium-sized muscular arteries, without the presence of glomerulonephritis. The inflammatory process weakens the arterial walls, leading to the formation of aneurysms, thrombosis, and potential rupture, which can cause ischemia and infarction in the tissues supplied by the affected vessels. While often idiopathic, a subset of cases is associated with chronic hepatitis B virus infection.
