Polydipsia

Excessive thirst leading to the consumption of large quantities of fluid. It is a symptom of several medical conditions, including diabetes mellitus, where high blood glucose levels cause osmotic diuresis and subsequent dehydration. Polydipsia can also be a side effect of certain medications or a symptom of psychological disorders, and is clinically defined as a fluid intake exceeding 5 liters per day in adults.
