Hyperglycemia

An abnormally high concentration of glucose in the blood. It is the hallmark of diabetes mellitus, arising from deficient insulin secretion, impaired insulin action, or both, and it can also follow stress, steroid drugs or acute illness. A fasting plasma glucose of 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or more on two occasions is the diagnostic threshold for diabetes.
