A prefix denoting 'above', 'over', or 'in excess of' a normal or reference state. In toxicology and clinical chemistry, it indicates a condition where a substance, property, or rate is elevated beyond its usual physiological range. For instance, the term hyperglycemia describes an abnormally high concentration of glucose in the blood, while hypertension signifies elevated blood pressure.
