Hypaxial

Relating to the musculature and skeletal elements situated ventral to the vertebral column in vertebrates. These structures are derived from the hypaxial myotomes during embryonic development. Hypaxial muscles include those of the body wall and limbs, contrasting with epaxial muscles found dorsal to the spine.
