Islet cell antibodies
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013217
Autoantibodies directed against components of the pancreatic islet cells, particularly the beta cells that produce insulin. Their presence indicates an autoimmune response targeting the pancreas, which is characteristic of Type 1 diabetes mellitus. These antibodies are often detected in the serum of individuals before the clinical onset of the disease.
