Isobar

  1. A line on a weather map connecting points of equal atmospheric pressure at a given time or average period. These lines indicate areas of high and low pressure, which are associated with different weather conditions. The spacing of isobars reflects the pressure gradient, influencing wind speed.

  2. Nuclides that possess the same mass number (total number of protons and neutrons) but differ in their atomic number (number of protons). Consequently, isobars are different chemical elements. For example, argon-40 and calcium-40 are isobars, both having a mass number of 40 but different numbers of protons.
