Polymer-poor phase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009198
The phase in a two-phase polymer solution that contains a lower concentration of the polymer solute. This phase separation occurs when the polymer-solvent interactions are unfavorable, leading to the formation of a polymer-rich phase and a coexisting polymer-poor phase, which is essentially a dilute solution of the polymer. The polymer-poor phase is also referred to as the sol phase, in contrast to the gel-like polymer-rich phase.
