Potential-determining ions
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009319
Ions that establish the electrical potential difference across an interface between two phases, typically a solid and a solution. Their adsorption or desorption at the surface dictates the surface charge and, consequently, the electrical potential. For many oxides, hydrogen and hydroxide ions are the primary potential-determining ions.
