Prenatal development study

An investigation designed to assess the effects of exposure to a substance on the developing organism from conception through birth. These studies evaluate potential adverse outcomes such as malformations, growth retardation, or functional deficits in the offspring. They are a standard component of toxicology testing for new chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
