Preoptic area
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009396
A region of the anterior hypothalamus located rostral to the optic chiasm, involved in regulating several autonomic functions. It contains thermosensitive neurons that control body temperature and also plays a part in sleep regulation and maternal behavior. The preoptic area is a key site for the synthesis and release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which governs the reproductive cycle.
