Tegmentum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013640
A general area within the brainstem, located anterior to the ventricular system. It forms the floor of the midbrain and contains structures like the reticular formation, red nucleus, and substantia nigra, which are involved in motor control, sleep, and arousal. This region is derived from the embryonic neural tube and is a key area studied in neurotoxicology for effects of chemical exposure on motor function and consciousness.
