Telechelic polymer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013641
A prepolymer whose chain ends carry reactive groups, usually one at each end, so that it can enter further polymerization or other reactions. In chain polymerizations these end-groups come from the initiator or from termination and transfer agents instead of from the monomer. Telechelic polymers serve as chain extenders, crosslinkers and building blocks for block copolymers, and a chain functional at only one end is called semitelechelic.
