Proprioception
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009556
The sense of the relative position of one's own parts of the body and the effort being employed in movement. This internal sense is mediated by proprioceptors, which are mechanosensory neurons located within muscles, tendons, and joints. These receptors send signals to the central nervous system, which integrates the information to create a representation of body position, movement, and force.
