Dorsal root

A bundle of sensory nerve fibers that carries afferent signals from the periphery into the spinal cord. These roots transmit information such as touch, pain, temperature, and proprioception. Each dorsal root originates from a dorsal root ganglion, where the cell bodies of the sensory neurons are located.
