Dormant species
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013048
A temporarily deactivated chain carrier, that is, a polymer chain that has stopped growing but can be reactivated to propagate under the polymerization conditions. In reversible-deactivation polymerization the dormant chains are the great majority and only a small share is active at any moment. In ATRP the dormant chain end is an alkyl halide, and in RAFT polymerization it is a thiocarbonylthio group.
