Proton magnetogyric ratio
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009611
The ratio of the magnetic dipole moment of a proton to its spin angular momentum, symbolized γp. It fixes the Larmor frequency at which a proton spin precesses in an external magnetic field, a principle applied in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and magnetometry. The 2018 CODATA recommended value for the free proton is 2.6752218744 × 10⁸ radians per second per tesla, slightly higher than the value for protons shielded in water.
