Rate of generation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013476

The number of charge carriers, electron-hole pairs or excitons produced per unit time and per unit volume of a solid photocatalyst particle by absorption of light. It falls off with depth below the irradiated surface because the light is attenuated, following an exponential law governed by the absorption coefficient. Kinetic studies of photocatalysed reactions often treat it as constant, which corresponds to weak light absorption.
