Reinforced reaction injection moulding
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010129
A form of reaction injection moulding in which short reinforcing fibres, typically glass, are blended into one of the liquid reactive components before mixing and injection, so the cured part is stiffer and stronger than the unfilled polymer. The reactive liquids polymerize in the mould to give a fibre-filled moulding, such as a polyurethane panel. It differs from structural RIM, where continuous fibre mats are laid in the mould before injection.
