Monolith
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013303
A shaped, fabricated article in one piece whose microstructure is homogeneous, with no components resolvable under an optical microscope. Typical routes to a monolith are pressing, sintering, sol-gel processing and crosslinking during reactive moulding. A monolith may be dense or deliberately porous, as in the continuous porous polymer rods used as chromatography stationary phases.
