Isostatic pressing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013223

A materials processing method where a powdered or porous preform is compacted by applying uniform pressure from all directions. The component is sealed in a flexible container and submerged in a fluid medium, such as water or oil for cold pressing or an inert gas for hot pressing, which is then pressurized. This technique produces a densified object with very uniform density and a fine, homogeneous microstructure, minimizing internal stresses and warping compared to uniaxial pressing.
