Reptation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010212
A model describing the motion of long, entangled polymer chains in a dense melt or concentrated solution, where a chain moves primarily by sliding along a 'tube' formed by its surrounding chains. This snake-like motion is a key mechanism for viscoelasticity in entangled polymer systems.
