Repulsive potential-energy surface
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010213
A potential energy surface on which an exergonic atom-diatom reaction A + BC meets its barrier late, once A and B have already moved close together. Most of the reaction energy is therefore released after the A-B bond forms, as the products separate under mutual repulsion. The same surface type goes by the name late-downhill, and its barrier is classed as type II.
