Attractive-mixed-repulsive classification

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000937

A system for categorizing the dynamics of a chemical reaction based on the location of the energy barrier along the reaction coordinate on a potential energy surface. An 'attractive' surface has its barrier in the reactant (entrance) channel, while a 'repulsive' surface has its barrier in the product (exit) channel. A 'mixed' energy release surface has the barrier located in the central region, near the transition state corner.
