Tube renewal

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012339

The process by which the confining tube, envisioned in the tube model for entangled polymers, is gradually replaced or reformed as the surrounding polymer chains move and rearrange. This occurs as the original chains forming the tube reptate away, allowing new chains to define a different confining environment. Tube renewal contributes to the long-time relaxation behavior of entangled polymer melts.
