Tuberculin

A sterile liquid preparation containing a purified protein derivative (PPD) obtained from the tubercle bacillus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is used in a diagnostic skin test to determine if an individual has been infected with or exposed to the tuberculosis bacterium. A localized inflammatory reaction at the injection site, appearing after 48 to 72 hours, indicates a positive result.
