Ribbon delocalisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013509
A specific type of electron delocalization occurring in certain conjugated systems, where the delocalized electrons are confined to a narrow, ribbon-like region within the molecule. This phenomenon is observed in molecules with extended pi-electron systems, such as polyenes or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It influences the electronic properties and reactivity of these compounds, often leading to distinct spectroscopic characteristics.
