Scaling factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010542

A numerical multiplier used to adjust the magnitude of a quantity or a set of data. In theoretical chemistry, it is often applied to vibrational frequencies calculated from quantum mechanical methods to bring them into better agreement with experimental values. These factors account for approximations in the theoretical model and anharmonicity effects.
