Scope of activity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010590
The difference between an organism's rate of oxygen consumption at maximal activity and its rate at minimal activity. It measures the respiratory capacity available above basal needs for swimming, feeding, growth and coping with stress, and it is closely related to aerobic or metabolic scope in fish physiology. Toxicants that raise resting oxygen demand or limit maximal uptake reduce it.
