Selective decoupling
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013536
A nuclear magnetic resonance technique in which one specific resonance is irradiated with a radiofrequency field, removing its spin-spin coupling to the other nuclei. The multiplets of the coupled partners lose the splitting caused by the irradiated spin and so become simpler, which shows which signals are coupled to which. It is a form of spin decoupling in which only the chosen resonance is irradiated, unlike broadband decoupling that irradiates a whole spectral range.
