Sensitized strain
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010748
A model organism strain that carries a mutation in a metabolic or signaling pathway which causes no visible change in phenotype on its own but leaves the animal more responsive to a second change elsewhere in the same pathway. Geneticists use such backgrounds in sensitized screens to find enhancers and suppressors, because weakly interacting mutations that would go unnoticed in a normal strain then produce a visible effect.
