Sialon
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010840
A ceramic based on the silicon-aluminium-oxygen-nitrogen system, formed as a solid solution in which aluminium replaces some of the silicon and oxygen replaces an equal amount of nitrogen in the silicon nitride structure. Beta-sialon is used for cutting tool inserts and for parts that contact molten non-ferrous metals.
