Speciation analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011087
Analytical work aimed at identifying individual chemical forms of an element in a sample and determining how much of each is present. Such analysis usually couples a separation step, for example liquid chromatography, with an element-specific detector such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), a combination written HPLC-ICP-MS. Arsenic speciation in rice, separating arsenite, arsenate and organic forms, is a typical application.
