Spontaneous emission
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011242
The process by which an excited atom, molecule, or other quantum system decays to a lower energy state by emitting a photon without external perturbation. This emission occurs randomly in time and direction. The rate of spontaneous emission is characterized by the Einstein A coefficient.
