Stationary state

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011341

A state of a system in which all observable properties are constant over time. In quantum mechanics, a stationary state corresponds to an eigenstate of the Hamiltonian operator, meaning its probability density does not change. This differs from a steady state, where macroscopic properties are constant but microscopic processes continue.
