Stratus cloud

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011464

A type of low-level cloud characterized by horizontal layering with a uniform, gray base. These clouds form in stable atmospheric conditions where gentle upward air currents lift a layer of moist air high enough to cause condensation. Stratus clouds can produce light drizzle or snow and are often associated with overcast weather, forming at altitudes below 2,000 meters.
